-I've been playing poker for a long time and I feel my preflop game has been improving a lot in the past six months. Preflop is where I see a lot of common leaks in people's game which can lead to more mistakes on later streets. When we read and discuss hands in the forums, so often we see, you shoulda done this preflop but as played.... What I'm saying is that a solid preflop strategy should be the foundation of our gam...

-I've been busy grinding the cash games since I left my job at Barneys and had a really strong start. I was logging in hours, had the winrate I wanted, and my graph was looking perty. Then BEHOLD, a downswing... of -2.8k @ 2/5. This isn't that bad considering I had a 2.1k loss in an uncapped game at the Rio then some small consequetive losses after. It actually is bad considering lots of this number included bad ...

-I'm so excited to be playing poker full time again. My last day of work at Barneys New York was on May 14th. That felt like the longest two weeks of my life (actually a week and a half). ONLY through God and His grace, could this be possible. Not even six months ago, I was applying for all kinds of retail jobs. I even applied for two Target locations. It was a very humbling experience and I am so thankfu...

-I've been playing a lot more lately and noticed some of the common mistakes i see the live players make, even the pros. The hardest thing to do is to make a hero fold. I'm not talking about bet/folding AdAs on 789hh to a raise from a nit, I mean folding top of your range like the second nuts. I'm gonna talk about this because this took me awhile to learn then after learning, it took me awhile to actually do it con...

-I played a 2/5 session at the Bellagio a couple days ago and made a few mistakes in a couple of spots. Nothing glaring, however it's a great reminder to always think ANOTHER level ahead when making your decisions.
-So my table was pretty nitty overall preflop but the players had a lot of leaks postflop (standard). There was one older guy though, that would be raising pretty frequently and calling raises and 3bets a l...

-The WSOP is such a big part of a poker player's career. It seems as though I count the years from May to May than from Jan to Dec. Again, time is flying so fast and it's about that awesome time of year. Time to map out the events, choose which ones i am gonna play, which ones i want to play and make a plan for putting in as much volume at the cash game tables as possible.
-From my experience, it's very ...

-Have you ever heard the term "speak it into existance"? It's very important to understand that what you SAY can have a positive impact on you or a negative one. Scripture says - from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. You can't ever open up a success principle or leadership book without reading about this concept. We have to learn to control our thougths and our words. What you think ...

-We always hear that we should play longer when we're winning and shorter when we're losing. The best example for this threory would be Phil Ivey. A player on 2+2 posted a graph where in one month he made little over 60k at 200nl and 400nl in a month. He showed his sessions in the software and all the losing sessions were around 2k hands and all his big sessions were around 7k hands. This was over a 120k hand sam...

-I once had a friend tell me, " You show me five of your closest friends and I'll tell you who you are." That's some powerful stuff. Association is one of the keys to becoming successful in anything you do. If you want to be a great poker player, you should hang around people that are at your level that are constantly improving (iron sharpens iron) and also, associate yourself with the best players around. &n...

Today before work i had a couple of hours to kill so i put in a short 1/2 sesh at the venetian. I am a huge fan of getting super thin value on the river. it proves you know how to hand read well. There are spots though, when deciding to value bet or check, you really gotta break it down to which hand combos can call that are worse, and what level your villain is thinking at. i'll go through the hand.
effective stac...
